Pierre Schoonraad

, Centre for Public Service Innovation ( South Africa)

Pierre Schoonraad

Pierre Schoonraad is the Head of Research and Development at the Centre for Public Service Innovation (CPSI) in South Africa. His Component investigates service delivery challenges and finds innovative and sustainable models and solutions (both ICT and non-ICT) to improve service delivery. Where solutions do not exist, new ones are developed, following an open innovation process. From 2004 to 2008 he served in the Department of Public Service and Administration as Director: Research. One of the major responsibilities was to investigate the capacity of the state to deliver on government’s priority programmes.

Before joining the public service, Pierre spent ten years within the non-profit sector working mainly in informal settlements on finding innovative solutions for poverty related challenges. Amongst other work, he researched energy efficient housing solutions, job-creation and air pollution. As a socio-economic specialist, he contributed to a number of environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and strategic environmental assessments (SEAs).
