Being a pragmatic developper in the Java land

Many people wonder how possibly Open Source developpers can be so incredibly good in developing successful projects. They think that those developers are just genius. We will try to debunk this theory and see how they manage to succeed.

Most of the OSS developers are just pragmatic, and don't use most of the tools and methods that are spread around as if they were the Holly Graal. They try to get away from buzzwords, and tend to use efficient tools, and convenient methodologies. Development is not yet a well defined process, Java is also an evolving environment, and we will see how to navigate safely to build successful projects in this moving environment. We will also see how we can use the same methodologies in the closed source environment.
