The second Open World Forum is to be held in Paris, France, on 1 and 2 October 2009. It features two days of plenary sessions, events and associated conferences.
This year's theme is: "Free, Libre and Open Source Software: at the heart of the Digital Recovery".
This year's organization will combine the best from 2008 with some new features. The first innovation is to coordinate the plenary sessions and the associated conferences. The second is to promote high-profile events both from the FLOSS ecosystem and players in the digital economy. This will lend the Forum international political strength, which will benefit the FLOSS community and all its stakeholders.
In effect, the success of this second Forum will be deeply rooted in the variety and rich content of the associated events, which will attract large numbers of participants who attend the plenary sessions and contribute to the overall momentum of the Forum.
The Forum advisory board – chaired by Jean Noël de Galzain – has asked me to take charge of organizing the associated events.
In order to be as efficient as possible, I'm asking all candidates interested in staging an associated event to send me the information below, in as much detail as possible.
Associated events could take various formats: from a two-hour 'power workshop' for a small group, to a six-hour seminar for hundreds of attendees. Given the original spirit of the Forum, and the limited number of rooms available, we would like to encourage sessions that:
- Are multi-disciplinary and bring different groups of people together, focusing on cross-fertilization of FLOSS initiatives
- Combine an exploration of new fields, with the search for innovative solutions
- Demonstrate international, or at least European, collaboration.
The selection will be made by the Forum Program Committee, based on the above criteria.
Some 1,500 people are expected to attend this year's Forum, including many technology gurus, political decision-makers, investors, senior IT Managers... This is the best opportunity to fuel the economic recovery through Free, Libre and Open Source Software, and to raise awareness of your projects.
I am looking forward to seeing you all there. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
Yours freely,
Philippe Montarges
