Experience the Open World Forum 2008

IT and the world of business are undergoing a profound revolution: Free Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS). Born out of grassroots IT research, and growing exponentially with the advent of the Internet, the movement is now rising up the IT stack so all mainstream users in most domains are now implicated in what is effectively a tidal wave for change: the FLOSS movement is inexorably revolutionizing information system technology, and the way businesses and people use it. What’s at stake? Freedom, innovation and competitiveness for both information technology businesses and users.

At the center of this revolution, IT ecosystems and governance policies are changing fast. This is opening up colossal opportunities, and also giving rise to some tough challenges. How can we foster the development of FLOSS ecosystems? What technological and economic breakthroughs in FLOSS can we expect in the future? How can public institutions support FLOSS to promote economic development? How can businesses leverage FLOSS for innovation and competitive differentiation? What impacts might FLOSS have on IT Governance?

Founded by a heavyweight group of communities and IT players, the Open World Forum is created as a new international event contributing to cross-fertilize ideas and initiatives in these areas.

The numerous sessions, activities, and events at the Open World Forum aim to bring you FLOSS's best:

Beyond the conference itself, the event will establish a new environment where people can think ahead, identify key trends, challenges and opportunities for the future. Bringing together international experts working on future planning, scenarios and recommendations, it will deliver and debate the first ever 2020 FLOSS Roadmap.
