Holds a PhD in Sociology of Science and Technology from the University of Brasilia and the Open University, UK (2003). She is currently a professor at the Business Department of the Federal University of Brasilia (UnB) and a researcher at the Department of Sociology at the same university. She is also an ad-hoc consultant for the National Scientific and Technological Development Council (CNPq) and member of the Founding Council of the Interdisciplinary Information and Knowledge Laboratory (Liinc) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, as well as editor of their online journal. Her background is in the area of Sociology, with emphasis on Science, Technology and Innovation. Concepts and fields of activity include the new mode of production of scientific and technological knowledge; information and technology capital; information and communication technologies; open source and public software; electronic publishing; knowledge democracy in the information society, social inclusion, the use of the Internet in contemporary societies. Her main publications are: “Information Technologies & New Challenges for Scientific Knowledge Production” (2001), “Hierarchy & Power in Contemporary Societies” (2003), “Capital Tecnológico-informacional” (2004), “Segredo e Democracia: Certificação Digital e Software Livre” (2007) and “Networks of technological production: the Brazilian Government Project of the Public Software” (2010). Her current work focuses on the economic and social implications of the production of scientific and technological knowledge in organizations. She is currently working on two research projects: the analysis of the Brazilian Federal Government use of free software and the study of the implementation of digital certification in Brazil.
