Professor at School of Computer Science, South China University of Technology

Professor Hongbo Xu is a faculty member of Computer Science School, South China University of Technology (www.scut.edu.cn). His research interests include Internet 3D applications and Services, Software & Service platform, mobile internet and scenario driven education.
Hongbo also servers as the managing director of Guangzhou O-Engine Information Technology Ltd (www.o-engine.com), a spin off from SCUT.

O-Engine is market leader in China on developing and marketing of new generation web based 3D interactive contents and services.

Hongbo has more than 23 years of experiences in the software industry. He is a key expert of Chinese national mega strategic innovation project  “He-Gao-Ji”, the largest innovation program in the ICT industry funded by Chinese government.  “He-Gao-Ji” spans from year 2008 to year 2020 with total funding surpass 15 billion Euros.
“He-Gao-Ji” plays a vital role for driving future growth of Chinese ICT industry. Within his capacity Hongbo is in charge of several Chinese National Strategic Future Internet key projects, including the Infrastructure Middleware Project, the Search Engine and Browser Project and the Digital Home Project. He has been appointed as the coordinator for Chinese FII Technology Platform (CPT), a large national consortium that is consisted of Large Industries (China Mobile, China Telecom, Baidu, Lenovo, Alibaba, Tencent, etc.), Leading universities and academia (BUAA, CAS, Peking Univ., Tsinghua Univ., NUDT, etc,) and SME clusters.

 Hongbo has been working on Sino-European scientific and industrial cooperation since 2004. He is the China coordinator for the QualiPSo (www.qualipso.org) project, an IP project funded by European Commissions under FP6. Furthermore, Hongbo serves as board member of OW2 (www.ow2.org) for the last 6 consecutive years. He also serves as the board member of China Open Source Promotion Union (COPU, www.oss.org), the largest open source coalition in China.
