From early 2003, Satoru Ueda has been engaged in a project to evolve Linux for use of consumer electronics appliances harmonizing with the other usages. The project was named “CE Linux Forum” which was founded by Sony and Panasonic together with many international corporations of consumer electronics appliance development. At this moment, many of those products have been designed based on Linux and the related OSS and it becomes one of the crucial platforms, although there were many doubts to use Linux for those products at the starting phase of the forum. He is currently the marketing group chair of the forum.
From 2008, he has been taking a role of embedded system subcommittee chair in the Japan OSS Promotion Forum to make top level understanding of the importance among consumer electronics industry in Japan.
