Workshop - Open Source movies: Solution or Sacrilegious?

Open Creation, P2P, long-tail economics...: the digital world is revolutionizing the video industry. Debate.

October 1, 2010, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM - Register >

In Hollywood everyone wants to get a development idea, every one is writing a script, and everyone is rushing to protect their Intellectual Property. NDAs, Actor Royalties, Music Sync Licenses, Directors points and Producers cuts, Distribution deals and International licensing are only the tip of the red tape that is involved in movie production and distribution. The industry is already being confronted by illegal streaming and downloads, and now Open Source?

What does the idea of Open Source Movies do to this process?  The definition of an open source film is based on the OSI's open source software definition and states that the license of the movie is approved for Free Cultural Works via the Creative Commons License, The materials used in the movie (sources) are also available and sometimes editable via an online download or stream via open source software.  What does this mean for the film industry? What does this mean for FilmMakers, Actors, musicians and innovators? What does this mean for platform builders? We will bring together speakers who are at the forefront of Open Source Movies and have the debate.

Questions that will be answered in this panel / presentation :

- What does the idea of Open Source Movies do to the movie making and distribution process?

- What does Open Source and Creative Commons license actually mean in detail?

- How does this affect FilmMakers, Actors, Marketers Film Corporations and Distributors?

- Can we answer "Solution or Sacrilegious" before the Film Industry goes the way of the Music Industry?
