Francois Bancilhon

François is currently working on cooperative R&D projects focused on mobile Internet applications: Data Publica, GeoBlaBla and Mobile Services Initiative. Before this, he was the chairman and CEO of Mandriva (formerly Mandrakesoft), a world Linux publisher. Prior to Mandriva, he has founded and/or managed several software startups in France and in the US. In a previous life, François was a researcher and a university professor, in France and the US, specializing in database technology. He holds an engineering degree from the École des Mines de Paris, a PhD from the University of Michigan and a Doctorate from the University of Paris XI.
